Gillian + Henrik, King’s College, Cambridge

Where to begin with describing Gillian and Henrik’s wedding? Let’s start with the venue as Gillian is the Provost of King’s and the first Provost to marry in the Chapel. The couple split their lives between Cambridge and New York and so with over 300 guests meticulous planning was required. I was fortunate that having worked with the King’s team on previous weddings that they introduced me to Gillian and Henrik when there engagement was announced.

The night before the Provost’s Lodge played host to an ‘Anything Goes’ fancy dress party held in tipis on the Provost Lodge with drinks flowing and guests tucking into a BBQ (thankfully the rain held off) until the small hours. On Monday and Tuesday the tipis hosted a walk in breakfast service for guests to meet up ahead of heading off into Cambridge on one of the many organised tours various University departments hosted including a private tour of the Fitzwilliam Museum.

The couple held a 5pm ceremony in the College Chapel with full choir and the beautiful Chapel organ hitting the high notes and delighting their guests who had travelled from all over the world. A drinks reception on the back lawn followed the ceremony with dining and dancing in the Great Hall. During the drinks reception the College Fellows joined the guests to celebrate with the happy couple.
